CONCERN:

Spider Veins and Thread Veins

Thread Veins treatment, Belsize Park, London

Spider veins and thread veins are small, visible blood vessels that appear close to the surface of the skin. They are most commonly found on the face or legs and may appear red, purple or blue. While they are usually harmless, they can be a cosmetic concern for many people and may contribute to redness or uneven tone.

At Heath Clinic, we offer non-invasive, clinically proven treatments to safely reduce and remove thread veins. Using advanced light-based technology, we target the underlying vessels without damaging the surrounding skin. The result is clearer, calmer skin with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

What are spider veins and thread veins?

Thread veins, also known as telangiectasia, are dilated capillaries that can appear due to a variety of causes.

These include:

  • Genetics

  • Sun exposure

  • Ageing

  • Hormonal changes

  • Rosacea

  • Trauma to the skin

  • Lifestyle factors such as alcohol or heat exposure

On the face, they are often found around the nose, cheeks and chin. On the legs, they may appear behind the knees or along the thighs and ankles.

Although they do not pose a medical risk, many people choose to treat them for aesthetic reasons or to improve skin tone and texture.

Our Approach to Treating Thread Veins

At Heath Clinic, we treat thread veins using Sciton BroadBand Light (BBL), a medical-grade light therapy that targets and collapses unwanted vessels beneath the skin. The energy is absorbed by the vessel, which is then naturally broken down and reabsorbed by the body over time.

This treatment is safe, precise and requires no needles or surgery. Most patients describe the treatment as quick and comfortable, with no downtime and excellent results after a course of sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • BBL is one of the most effective and non-invasive options for facial thread veins. It targets the vessels with light energy and reduces their appearance without damaging the surrounding skin.

  • This depends on the severity and size of the veins. Most patients benefit from a course of two to four sessions spaced a few weeks apart.

  • Treatment is well tolerated. You may feel a brief warm or snapping sensation as the light pulses are delivered, but no anaesthetic is required.

  • Treated veins usually do not return, but new ones can form over time due to genetics, sun exposure or other triggers. We recommend maintenance treatments and preventive skincare to help reduce recurrence.

  • BBL is most effective for small, superficial veins on the face and upper body. Larger leg veins may require alternative treatments such as sclerotherapy, which we can refer you for if needed.

  • There is little to no downtime. You may experience mild redness or warmth in the area, but this usually settles within a few hours.

  • BBL is suitable for many skin types, but we will assess your skin during consultation to ensure safety and customise the treatment settings for your skin tone.
